Dear Visitor:
EMPATHY Mental Health is an African-American led and operated provider of mental health services. It was organized by a group of African-American Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Case Managers, Pastors, Psychotherapists, and Business Persons deeply concerned and outraged by mental health disparities in the African-American population.
Rates of mental illnesses in African Americans are similar with those of the general population. However, disparities exist in regard to mental health care services. African Americans often receive poorer quality of care and lack access to culturally competent care. Only one-in-three African Americans who need mental health care receives it.
While our organization was founded to address mental health disparities within the African American community, we are dedicated to providing services to all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, background or orientation. Our promise is that we will provide to each of our clients – based on the client’s specific mental disorder(s) – care that is person-centered, culturally competent, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented.
